Is Nintendo’s Next Console Going To Be At E3?

The Wii's big selling point was motion controls. When everyone saw people swinging their arms to control Wii Tennis, jaws dropped. Did you know that I camped out of the Gamestop across the street from my university? That wasn't even to buy the damn machine. That was to preorder it!

Certainly the Wii was fun. It sold a ton of units, but it's underpowered and inundated with shovelware at this point. You'd have to dig through tons of bullshit to find that one Nintendo game you want. Issues with third-party support, graphics capabilities, and high-definition graphics missing in action band together to mean one thing:

Time for new hardware!

Game Informer is reporting that several sources have confirmed that the next Nintendo console will be revealed at E3 2011. The same sources say that the next-generation home console will play games in HD resolutions. The system is apparently slated for a late 2012 launch.

While there is no hard information on the console's specific graphics capabilities, the same sources that are informing the press about the project's existence are claiming that the hardware will be competitive with the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Oh boy, oh boy! New Nintendo hardware? This E3 should be awesome! Nothing makes for a fanboy fest like something new from Ninty! With the PS3 and Xbox 360 slated for 10-year hardware cycles, will Nintendo's Wii HD, Wii 2, whatever you want to call it be set to dominate the next generation?
