Sony: The Last Guardian “Will Ship When It’s Ready”

Scott Rohde, PlayStation software product development head, spoke with GameSpot on Sony's lineup of titles at E3 2012 as well as one elephant in the room that should have shown at some time at Sony's press conference. That title, of course, is The Last Guardian.

I will not give you a detailed update, but I will say one thing and it goes back to innovation and to gamers and to quality. That title is going to ship when it's absolutely ready.

It's going to ship at sometime, and it's going to ship when it's ready. And I think that's a really important thing to remember, is that it would be very easy to ship a game when it's not quite ready because we need to meet a business plan. Gamers are first, and the experiences we provide are first. And that's why we're gonna talk about that game when we're ready to talk about it.

The Last Guardian has been in production for so long that it's surprising the game wasn't ready to be shown at E3 even with the well-documented turmoil within the production team with Fumito Ueda leaving Sony in December 2011. President of SCE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida has said that Santa Monica studios is assisting in the title's development and that its absence at E3 is due to "technical difficulties", according to a quote from Eurogamer.

When do you think The Last Guardian will ship?
