Epic Games Is Hiring Members Of Big Huge Games

The self-destruction of 38 Studios and its subsidiary, Big Huge Games, was one nasty break-up. However, not all is lost.

Dr. Michael Capps, President of Epic Games, is looking to turn the bad news that hit Big Huge Games into an opportunity. A heart-warming community post by Capps shares a plan for Epic Games to employ some of the talent of ex-Big Huge Games employees. A portion of the article can be seen below:

It’ll take a while to find space, set up desks and PCs, purchase sufficient Nerf weaponry and Dr. Pepper, etc.  But some of these folks have been going too long without a paycheck to wait for that.  So, as soon as we can, we’re going to try to get people working down here at Epic headquarters in Cary, NC as contractors.

He countered the million questions he knew he'd be asked with the following:

There’s a million things to work out.  How many of the team can we hire?  What will it be called?  What will they be working on?  We don’t know all the answers yet.  Please give us some time to figure it out; we hope to have more to share soon.

This should be a huge relief for a portion of the roughly 70 employees that Big Huge Games had before it dissolved only weeks ago. It was certainly a shocker to find out that the team who made Rise of Nations was going the way of the dinosaur, especially considering they have won dozens of awards and obtained commercial success. Instead of the quick death that it appeared to be this could end up being one of the largest video game company marriages in recent history.

While it might seem fitting to call the new studio Big Huge Epic Games, it looks like it will actually be called Epic Baltimore. Oh well, you can't get everything.
