Steam Box Rumors Resurface, Valve Developing “New Types Of Input, Output, And Platform Hardware”

Earlier this year, rumors began floating around the web stating that Valve was looking into creating a dedicated Steam-powered console. Since that time, talk regarding the alleged device has died down, likely because the more gamers considered the idea, the more it started to sound like a stripped down PC. And honestly, who would want that?

Of course, the rumors couldn't stay buried for long, as Valve's job page makes it clear that the company is currently in search of an electronics engineer interested in constructing gaming hardware. According to the listing, Valve is "developing hardware to enhance those experiences, and you can be a key part of making that happen. Join our highly motivated team that’s doing hardware design, prototyping, testing, and production across a wide range of platforms.”

Apparently, they're not looking to build some run-of-the-mill device either, as innovation is a major part of their vision. “We’re not talking about me-too mice and gamepads here – help us invent whole new gaming experiences,” the post goes on to say. Now before you go on assuming that this is likely in reference to some sort of add-on peripheral, Valve goes on to say that the position is looking for someone to “conceive, design, evaluate, and produce new types of input, output, and platform hardware”.

Sounds an awful lot like a Steam Box to me.
