Indie Dev Gives 7-Year-Old An Awesome Birthday Present

Gaming father Martin Kool tries to raise his son Zias "with a healthy balance of analog and digital fun", the perfect formula for a kid who's a fan of Edge, a cubic puzzle game by indie developer Two Tribes.

Zias would regularly traverse each level of the game and, once finished, build his own Edge levels using Legos with inspiration and intense creativity. They are so good in fact that Martin, his wife, and Zias' two younger sisters have played them in Lego form.

Wanting to give an awesome Edge-related birthday gift to his son, Martin wrote an email to Two Tribes simply asking for some swag, "a poster, flyer or business card perhaps", but was surprised when founder of Two Tribes Collin van Ginkel sent him the following email:

Hi Martin,

I don’t have much marketing material except for some digital flyers. But I thought it would be nice if Zias could make a Lego level for us, which we would rebuild and put back in the actual game. The level will have his name and be put on Steam.

Not sure if this can be arranged, but would that be a nice present?

Cheers,

Collin

Through a series of excited emails, lead level designer presented the following invite (translated below):

Hi Zias! We made Edge.

Would you like to come over

And show us your coolest Lego level?

We’ll then put it in the real Edge.

Cheers from Two Tribes

in Amersfoort

Martin and Zias will travel to Two Tribes' studio based in central Netherlands in early March. 🙂
