EverQuest To Introduce Free-To-Play Model This March

Before the days of World of Warcraft, EVE Online, Final Fantasy XI, and other popular MMOs there was EverQuest, a game that influences developers even to this day. Nearly 13-years ago it molded online gaming, which was new at the time, with the engrossing nature of RPGs. You might also know it as EverCrack, which derives from its ability to suck every last bit of social life out of anyone who dares to play it.

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that EverQuest will be hitting the free-to-play model this March. This huge move will coincide with the game's 13-year anniversary on March 16th, and will bring new events, items, and improved map functionality along with it.

As with any MMO that operates free-to-play, there will be optional subscriptions and fees for those who want additional content. In other words, think of it as an extended free demo instead of an MMO you can play at no cost, that way you aren't surprised when you see what you're missing out on by not paying. Even then, being able to play one of the most influential MMOs in history without entering your credit card information is a deal you can't pass up.
