Class-Action Lawsuit over FFXI Fees Dismissed

Seems like all kinds of class-action lawsuits are getting booted out the door these days. Earlier this month, a judge dismissed the "Alternate OS" class-action lawsuit against Sony. This time, Square Enix gets the reprieve with a dismissal on the 2009 class-action suit regarding alleged hidden fees for Final Fantasy XI Online.

In case you've slept since then or didn't care enough to remember, Plaintiff Esther Leong sought $5 Million in damages against Square Enix for "unfair business practices, false advertising, and unjust enrichment" by lying about or "concealing its monthly fees, penalties for late payments, interest, restrictions, and other things that should have been fully disclosed at points of purchase." You know… those pesky fees that generally come with MMOs until they become free to play.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed the lawsuit, effectively slamming the door on Ms. Leong's attempts to waste the court's time. We can only hope that a judge does the same with one of the current lawsuits against a certain gaming entity.
