Best Action/Adventure Game 2011

Batman: Arkham City

Platform(s): Xbox 360, PS3, PC

Publisher: Warner Bros.

Developer: Rocksteady Studios

Once our Game of the Year debate devolved into the fist-fight all-out-brawl throwdown, we knew it would, only one man came out on top. Me. That's because only I played enough of Batman's truly next-gen, open-world brawler, Arkham City. It's actually a training program for the next caped crusader to don the mask and fight crime in Gotham. It's also a damn good game in both its mechanical presentation and a narrative that's just as good as some of the best Batman stories ever told.

Whether Joker is harassing you over your radio or you're collecting Riddler trophies or you've tracked down one of the game's many side missions, Arkham City oozes Batman culture and history. With so many unlockables, extended replayability thanks to NewGame+, and the hours of gameplay in the challenge modes, Batman: Arkham City is the game Batman fans have been waiting for their entire lives and other superheroes wish they could star in.
