Last night on The Simpsons, episode 5 of season 23 brought Springfield's iconic family to E4, the "Expensive Electronic Entertainment Episode". There, armed with VIP passes, Homer, Bart, and Lisa, cut lines, played upcoming games, and got to see the unveiling of a new console from "Funtendo" called the Zii Zu.
Honestly, they nailed it. Everything from the massive displays, long lines, and even the look of the Los Angeles Convention Center was spot on. The best was how they portrayed people with "VIP passes", you know those things that we journalists get, as douches who think they're better than the regulars. Admittedly, I probably said, "damn regular people" and flaunted my pass dozens of times at this past E3, which saw a larger attendence from GameStop managers, and other peons that are clearly beneath me other retail employees.
Spoofs on a number of widely known games were on display such as Guts of War II. There was even a depressing, yet oh-so-true joke about a game designer losing his wife and never seeing his twin kids because of his commitement to his game. A game which Bart finished completely during his demo.
Did anyone catch it? If so, what did you think? If not, load it up on your Hulu, your On Demand, or check out Fox.com a week from now to see it. I tried to get a clip to post, but copyright issues prevent me from doing so. Gotta love lawyers.
[Update] It's not a direct clip, but you can see bits and pieces of it in the video below:
