Super Mario 3D Land Rewards Players Who Die A Lot

We hope you haven't forgotten about little ol' Mario now. We haven't covered Super Mario 3D Land too much, but it's one of the few titles that Nintendo fans are looking forward to this holiday season apart from Skyward Sword. If you did forget, though, I can't blame you when November has The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3, Saints Row: The Third, WWE '12, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Rayman: Origins, Need fo Speed: The Run, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, TEKKEN Hybrid, and The King of Fighters XIII… wait, where was I?

But anyway, back to the topic at hand. In Super Mario 3D Land, arriving November 13th in North America, players will be given special items if they continue to fail a level. If a player loses five lives on a single level, an Invincibility Leaf will drop, giving Mario the powers of the Tanooki Suit granted by the Super Leaf and also be made invincible. Die ten times in a single level, and the almighty P-Wing will "Super Guide" players straight to the end of level, though the collectibles won't be able to be obtained.

So either the game is extremely hard or too soft on beginners. It's a valid complaint by old-school Mario fans, though true hardcore fans will claim all the collectibles. We'll likely see more than a few epic speedruns as well, because really, Super Mario 3D Land shouldn't be that hard.
