Wings Gaming, China’s Most Successful Dota 2 Team, Loses Its Roster

Rumors are swirling this morning surrounding Wing's Gaming, China's most successful Dota 2 team, in terms of prize money, but one thing is clear: Wing's Gaming's entire Dota 2 roster is no longer a part of the famed organization.

Originally reported by joinDOTA's Annabelle Fischer, a limited announcement was made on the Chinese Blogging website Weibo.

Wings gaming is less than a year removed from winning the Dota 2 International 2016, where they took home the largest prize in eSports history at $9,139,002 USD, an amount which propelled them among the highest Dota 2 earners.

This has led to a lot of rumors and speculation via Reddit, some of them regarding the team's owner losing a substantial sum of money and needed to sell its roster in order to earn it back, but none of this has been verified and also is inconsistent with the facts.

Since Dota 2 invites players, not teams, the roster formerly of Wings Gaming will still compete later this month at the Kiev Major currently under the banner Team Random. As far as we can tell, Team Random is either a placeholder name or it's a brand new team.

This marks the third team to change brands after being invited to the Kiev Major. The roster formerly of Ad-Finem didn't renew their contracts, and will be competing under MouseSports, and Team Onyx, who made it to the tournament via the qualifiers left the organization and was signed by Digital Chaos.
