Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Just Received A Mysterious Patch That Supposedly Improves Framerate

The first major update for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a mystifying one. Released with a single patch note that reads, "Adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience", it has prompted a worldwide investigation into what Nintendo has changed about the game.

Details are rather scattered right now. Some are saying that it may have altered bonus stats, including the Climbing Set's ability to improve your climbing speed. Others are speculating that it fixes a wide range of known bugs, including the "horse fast travel glitch". However, just about everyone agrees that it has made an adjustment to the presentation of the game on its Switch version.

Framerate drops were a common occurrence on the original version of Breath of the Wild, or at least if you were playing in docked mode. No longer is that the case. What appears to have been an alteration of visual filters and foliage draw density has resulted in a framerate that remains at its 30 FPS lock most of the time. The only catch is that the patch only applies to the Switch version, leaving the Wii U in dismay.

If true, this is a huge success for both Nintendo and consumers. Breath of the Wild's unwieldy framerate was one of its only discernable flaws at launch, and even then it managed a 97 Metascore average. But now it's, simply put, a better game.

Stay tuned for more information on the patch.
