Activision Rolling Out Bans, Stat Wipes, For Infinite Warfare Holiday Crate Key Glitch [UPDATE]

[Update]: Infinity Ward Tweeted out today that they would be resetting the key and scrap count of every glitcher to zero, a much less-harsh punishment than originally thought.

[Original Story]: A popular glitch going around the holiday event for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is now being met with some harsh punishment.

It seems several people (such as the YouTuber above) took advantage of a glitch that allowed them to farm potentially infinite keys for supply crates, as they could repeatedly claim the daily reward of 20 keys that was supposed to be one-time only.

This glitch was patched out pretty quickly after a temporary suspension of the crates entirely, but many people made out like bandits, with some devoted followers farming thousands of keys.

But, as several Redditors have pointed out today, the chickens have come home to roost. Users who took advantage of this glitch are now being slapped with 48-hour bans at minimum, for some, it may be much worse.

As was pointed out by CharlieIntel, Activision is well within their rights to issue not only a temporary suspension but a complete wipe of any user's stats for even the first offense of abusing "an exploit in game code or other established rule of play."

Of course, people who are banned now won't know until their ban is up as to whether or not their stats have been wiped. Suffice it to say, it could be a sad Wednesday for many Infinite Warfare players.
