RAGE at 3 Discs on 360 and 8GB Install on PS3

When John Carmack took the stage at Quake Con this year, he had something negative to say about every platform you can play Rage on. Damn! What a downer! The PS3's OS is too memory-intensive. The 360 needs a 20+ GB install to run at the best possible quality. PCs are expensive!

With RAGE having gone gold with copies on their way to retailers now, id Software took the opportunity to finalize some other key storage details. PS3 gamers will need to install 8GB of data to the console's hard drive. Xbox 360 gamers will be switching between three separate discs. Speaking with reporters, Creative Director Tim Willits has said:

Sony was great. Kudos to Sony for letting us do that. They don't allow every game to do that. So definitely, hats off. What we were able to do is install all the textures to the highest level. What is nice about the PS3 platform is that it's just one platform. Everyone has one Blu-ray drive, one hard drive, it's all the same. Some of the other systems you have… should I install it on my 360? Should I not install it? So yes, it's very nice.

Willits says that gamers won't need to install every disc, though they should for the best possible RAGE experience on 360. RAGE will be available on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC at retailers on October 4th.
