Telltale is returning to its roots, at long last, finally announcing a release date for The Walking Dead's third season, titled A New Frontier. The latest in the zombie experience is due for release Dec. 20, 2016, just in time for the holidays.
Despite having a long list of games releasing before The Walking Dead: Season One, including a series based on the Back to the Future franchise, Telltale rose to popularity solely on the shoulders of the wildly well-received zombie survival game derived from the hit AMC series.
The game was truly a cultural phenomenon, and it opened the door for Telltale to receive new opportunities with other ground-breaking IPs, such as Game of Thrones, Minecraft and Batman. Let's also not forget the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy game either.
But, all along, many were wondering what, if anything they would be doing with the studio's most beloved franchise. While Telltale has always insisted that they would continue with The Walking Dead series, today's announcement comes as the first evidence, and a welcome sight for the sore, sore eyes of their fans.
The Walking Dead – A New Frontier is already available for pre-order on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Android/iOS. The game will also premiere a first-look next week at The Game Awards.
