GTA V Passes the 70 Million Sold Mark, Is Fourth Best-Selling Game Ever

There are games that have sold a lot of units, and then there is Grand Theft Auto V. A year ago we learned that it toppled the 70 million units sold milestone, making it one of the four best-selling titles of all-time. But it didn't stop there.

Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that GTA V has surpassed 70 million units sold. This brings it within striking distance of the 82 million selling Wii Sports, which had the extraordinary benefit of being bundled with hardware. Tetris and Minecraft still enjoy comfortable leads that are well out of reach.

This news arrived with the following other Take-Two achievements:

  • Mafia 3 shipped 4.5 million units during its first week.
  • NBA 2K17 sold 4.5 million units.
  • The Civilization series has sold over 37 million units.

A new adversary mode called Angels vs Demons was recently added to the online component of GTA V in celebration of Halloween, demonstrating Rockstar Games' commitment to supporting the title well after its release.
