Pokémon GO More Than Doubled Sales Of Other Pokémon Games

Pokémon GO has come and gone, it seems, lighting up the world for a short, but magical period of time where literally everyone and their mothers were out on the streets staring at their smartphones. But, while it's not quite the cultural phenomenon it once was, it's still indirectly making Nintendo a boat load of money.

Nintendo unveiled their semi-annual financial results yesterday, and while it's a lot to get through, it included this nugget about Pokémon GO:

The report had similar graphs for all sorts of different items, including Nintendo 3Ds hardware, and the conclusion was the same across the board: sales of Pokémon games went through the roof during and after the release month of Pokémon Go.

"As you can see, the release of Pokémon GO in July led to a major upsurge in sales, particularly for the U.S. and European markets," the report read.

When Nintendo tweeted yesterday that Pokémon Sun had become Nintendo's most pre-ordered game of all time, and that Pokémon Moon was their most downloaded demo of all time, they undoubtedly have their wildly popular smartphone app to thank.

While not naming Pokémon GO necessarily as the reason behind this, they did say that the pre-orders for Pokemon Sun and Moon are trending at a much higher level than that of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. It looks like Nintendo got exactly what they wanted from Pokémon GO.
