GDC Hits Record Attendance Levels, Next Year’s Dates Announced

It didn't take a record level of attendees to seal the deal on next year's Game Developers Conference. I snapped this photo on Tuesday when I went to pick up my press badge.

I'd put $10 down on me snapping a similar photo when we're back in San Francisco for coverage of GDC '12 from March 5th to the 9th.

As I said, GDC '11 broke all kinds of records. There may have been some pretty huge personalities at the conference, most of which were from Game Revolution and PlayStation Lifestyle, but in total 19,000 individual conference attendees were at hand.

The 25th annual GDC also hosted more than 450 lectures, panels, summits, tutorials, and roundtable discussions in a week's span.

Unfortunately (Ed's note: oh it must have been so hard for you!), 90% of my time was spent off-site playing a ton of games and listening to developers talk us through eyes-on demos.

GDC Director Meggan Scavio said that "The past week of GDC truly embodied the passion and spirit of the video game community. From seasoned game veterans to aspiring game professionals in areas spanning social and online games through major console titles and beyond, we are honored to continue and serve the industry – and hope to see you all next year."

I think you will, Meggan! GDC tends to be a little bit more low-key in terms of video game conferences. That means we get a lot more work done. The show floor also benefits from not being filled to the brim with Gamestop employees on their summer vacation.

Oh… you haven't gotten enough GDC coverage from Game Revolution? Keep you eye trained on the tag page and take a gander at our newly redesigned front page over the next few days as previews, impressions, and news flow from our furious fingertips.
