The Angry Birds Movie Looks… Decent?

When I first heard about The Angry Birds Movie, I thought it was an obvious cash-in on the popular franchise. That may still be true, but the debut teaser trailer showcases a movie that could be good for a few laughs.

The two and a half minute video features plenty of obvious jokes, including physical gags and… well, there are a lot of physical gags. I cracked a few smiles though, which I wasn't expecting when I hit play on YouTube.

The film touts an impressive voice cast, including Jason Sudeikis as Red, Danny McBride as Bomb, and Bill Hader as the green minion pig Leonard. Other voice actors include Maya Rudolph, Josh Gad, Tony Hale, and Peter Dinklage. Let's hope Dinklage's performance is a bit better than in Destiny.

The Angry Birds craze has come and gone at this point, but The Angry Birds Movie is the kind of film that plenty of children will want to see. Just make an animated movie with cute animals and you likely have a recipe for success with the younger audience.

Reaction to the trailer has been divisive so far, but I wonder if folks who think it looks terrible are letting the source material get to them. I honestly think it's a decent trailer, though that doesn't guarantee a decent movie. I've been burned far too many times by trailers in my life to be that naive.
