Metal Gear Online Details Revealed

I've already spent 70+ hours with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and that number will likely increase as I plan to at least check out Metal Gear Online. The additional multiplayer suite comes out next month on consoles, and some new details have been revealed.

A recent update on the Konami website mentions game modes, maps, and other important bits of information for Metal Gear Online. The modes include Bounty Hunter, Cloak and Dagger, and Comm Control. The first focus on a ticket system based on killing or fultoning enemies, the second features a unique lethal vs. non-lethal team approach, and the third involves capturing comm links and defending areas from attackers.

As for maps, there appear to be five confirmed stages which feature a wide variety of environments. There's a forest, a sand-filled fortress, and a gas refinery, just to name a few. Each one features plenty of branching paths and a level of verticality which will require careful strategy on the part of teammates.

The website update also details the scout, enforcer, and infiltrator classes. They each specialize in their own special areas, namely long-range combat, heavy weaponry, and close combat/CQC. Players will also be able to use "unique characters," such as Snake or Ocelot. They utilize their own special abilities and weaponry, but only one player per team can use them.

Other mechanics include interrogations, a weight system, and the ability to spawn at a buddy's location. Based on the new information, it looks to be a deeply involved and hopefully addictive multiplayer mode.

Metal Gear Online comes out for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 6. A PC release will follow in January 2016.
