Check Out This Massive MGS5 Story Section That Didn’t Make It Into the Final Game

While yes, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is undoubtedly a massive game, it looks like the final product isn't actually the full experience Kojima Productions set out to deliver. There are a number of characters that don't really get proper conclusions by the time the credits roll, and now we know why.

Those who purchased the Metal Gear Solid V's Collector's Edition have discovered a section on its bonus disc that provides a look at some footage of a deleted mission. It's comprised of some concept art with accompanying narration and cutscenes that were still in progress.

SPOILER WARNING – Note: This content covers events at the game's conclusion, so unless you've already finished The Phantom Pain or just don't care about having everything spoiled for yourself, I wouldn't continue any further. You have been warned.

Still will us? Cool.

So you may be wondering what the heck ends up happening with Eli, aka Liquid Snake, and his pal young Psycho Mantis. Apparently, there were plans for a Mission 51, which (for whatever reason) was cut. Give it a look below, courtesy of YouTube user Inzaa (via Kotaku).

It's a real shame this extra section didn't make it into the final game. It's clear Kojima's ambition stretched far beyond the limitations Konami placed upon him. Was there pressure to make the September 1 ship date? Did the studio just run out of money? So many questions we'll likely never have answered.

Have you already finished Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's main story? If so, let us know what you thought of Kojima's crazy narrative. Does it stand up to prior entries in the series? More importantly, is it satisfying? After all, this is likely the end of the series as we know it today. Even if Konami does make more Metal Gear, it almost certainly won't be with Kojima steering the ship, and I'm not sure that's a game I even want to play.

Truly heartbreaking.
