When the PS3 got its port of the previously PC and 360-only Mass Effect 2, it came with a neat little catcher-upper called Mass Effect: Genesis. While not an RPG about Adam and Eve like many were hoping for (or at least I was), it did give series newcomers some necessary info that made the experience more complete, as well as letting players make all the different choices they could have made by playing the original Mass Effect. BioWare director of marketing David Silverman, however, has confirmed to Kotaku that there will be no such bonus in Mass Effect 3.
It might seem like something of a downer but according to Silverman, the choices were far more important to veterans than newcomers; the latter are generally happy to just settle on their own conclusions and move ahead.
Silverman went on to compare Mass Effect newcomers to pretty much everyone when they watched their first Star Wars movie, and the fact that the famous saga's first film was actually part four of the overall saga. We didn't need to know about Jar Jar, the pod races, and Darth Vader's choices up until that point; we just needed to know there was some conflict and we could get ourselves started just fine. He's got a good point.
