Ion Storm Almost Made Deus Ex 3

Deus Ex: Human Revolution releases tomorrow! Personally, I can't wait! Josh's review will go live later today, but if you've been following Deus Ex from the beginning, you'll know that Eidos Montreal aren't the original developers.

The first game in the cyberpunk series was developed by Ion Storm and published by Eidos. The developers originally considered making Deus Ex 3 themselves:

We talked a little bit about doing Deus Ex 3 back in Texas before the studio shut down. And we were thinking also along the lines of a prequel. We though the franchise needed a reset. I was excited to hear that's the direction Eidos Montreal were going. It's the right thing to get the title back to more of a gritty, real world territory.

That's Sheldon J. Pacotti, one of the writers on the original Deus Ex. With the next title landing in gamers' hands tomorrow, what are his thoughts?

I've been in the loop a little bit. I helped frame some of it at the beginning and worked on the script. They've approaced the franchise with a lot of care, a lot of respect. A lot more care and respect that we did on the second one! Yeah, I hope it does well.
