The newest entry in the Star Ocean series was revealed last week, and now we have more details on the game thanks to an online preview from Famitsu (via Gematsu).
Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness takes place in the year 537, in between the events of Star Ocean: The Second Story and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. It stars Fidel Camus as the protagonist, the son of the most famous swordsman in the Leslia Kingdom.
Combat often involves large-scale encounters with many enemies, which forces strategic play. The AI still attacks automatically, and players can switch between characters on the fly. But producer Shuichi Kobayashi says "it'll be the whole party against the boss, lending those a different flavor from normal encounters."
The game also includes important events which lead to branching paths in the story. For example, characters can be ambushed and players have to act accordingly. It's unknown how big of an impact these event scenes will have on the overall experience.
The Famitsu preview also includes a series of new screenshots of Star Ocean 5, which can be viewed below.
