Sonic Boom Sees Weakest Sonic Launch Ever

Last year, Sega released two Sonic games for Nintendo platforms. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for Wii U and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for 3DS. Sadly, it doesn't look like either title sold all that well, with overall combined sales totaling to a mere 490,000 copies.

It's clear the Sonic franchise is plummeting in popularity. Sega even launched a cartoon to promote Sonic Boom, and yet the games are now officially the lowest-selling major launch ever for the Sonic series.

Not long ago, Sega announced that it would be streamlining its operations and downsizing to focus primarily on digital and PC games. Expect to see a very different Sega from here on out.
