Games usually release on Thursdays in Japan, kinda like Tuesdays in North America and (I think?) Wednesdays in Europe. I've never been to Europe or read anything about it, though, so I'm not sure where it is or what it's all about of if they have games there. Before we get to the coming week, let's check out what just dropped.
Titles that shipped on Feb. 5th:
We'll see the sales data for these bad boys soon.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse (PS4, PS3, 360, Xbox One)
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (PS3, 360)
Ebikore: Photokano Kiss (Vita)
Lost Heroes 2 (3DS)
It's not a busy week for releases, and by that hint, you may have guessed that early February isn't a big time for sales. The end of the month and all of March will start to pick things up on that front, as we've got Dragon Quest Heroes, Yakuza 0, Disgaea 5, and Bloodborne dropping, just to name a few.
If the horribly unpopular Xbox One was hoping to mount a miraculous comeback, it won't be doing it this week, because its singular game is also on three other platforms, all of which are much more popular. Yes, even the 360 (because there are over 1.6 million of them on the Japanese market already).
Shipping on Feb. 11:
A rare Wednesday release, because Wednesday is a national holiday in Japan, which means big action at retail. Koei Tecmo is playing this wisely and putting regular and collector's editions of Samurai Warriors 4-II (PS4, PS3, Vita) out a day earlier than usual to take a slight edge.
But they aren't the only bunch who's got the system figured out. There's also:
Rewrite (PS3)
Ukiyo no Roshi (Vita)
Gakuen Heaven: Boys Love Scramble! (Vita)
False Accusations of the 7 Deadly Sins (3DS)
Shipping Feb. 12:
Lords of the Fallen (PS4)
Library Party (Vita)
And then, on the Saturday the 14th, the week wraps up with another non-Thursday release, as The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D arrives for 3DS.
All that said, I think we'll see a very small boost for PS4 on the next round of sales charts, because of Xenoverse; and then the week after that will have the 3DS popping up somewhat, thanks to Majora's Mask pushing the New 3DS line.
The Wii-U, you might notice, gets no new software this week. This is thematic of Wii-U. It doesn't have a single game slated for a release this month at all, and has only received two new titles so far this year. Say what you will (and oh, I will!) about the Xbox One, but it's actually providing more new game releases right now. Yikes.
