Sony Pulling Maps, Near, and YouTube Support From Vita

An upcoming update for PlayStation Vita will remove support for the device's Maps and near functionality, Sony has announced.

In the March firmware update, the Maps app will be removed, and seeing as how near relies on the Map's position-tracking functionality, it will be rendered unusable. And that's not all, as the YouTube app is getting nixed from the Vita as well. Support for the service will be removed in April.

Sony has yet to explain why these services are being removed from the handheld. I have a feeling it has something to do with licensing fees and cutting costs on a device that isn't selling all that well.
