Guild Wars 2 Expansion Unveiled at PAX South

ArenaNet's first expansion for its popular MMO Guild Wars 2 has just been announced at PAX South. It's called Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns and expands the endgame experience, all while maintaining the current level cap.

Why isn't the level cap being increased? The studio didn't want players to have to worry about their current gear being rendered obsolete. Instead, players will get a new character progression system called "Masteries," which provide new skills required to survive in the expansion's jungle setting.

"I think you need real character progression that you can keep using to evolve your characters long after you hit max character level and have the best gear in the game," ArenaNet president and co-founder Mike O'Brien said during a panel at the Texas-based event. "Now you understand why we had to go build this expansion pack."

Will this new expansion have you hopping back into Guild Wars 2? For more details check out the game's official site.
