We recommend saving the diamonds specifically for the 10-draw option for either the Rate Up Invite banner or the standard Invite banner. It’s one of the best ways to make sure that you get copies of A-list and S-list characters on your wishlist.
The gold is useful at the beginning of the game to level up your heroes. But as you gain access to the Primal Lord and Battle Drills, it’s not as much of a problem.
