Whether or not the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo progress carries over to the full game is a bit complicated. The demo is broken into two parts. One is focused on Kalm and the Nibelheim flashback, and the other allows you to explore the area around Junon. However, only the save from one of them will work with the full game.
Can you use your Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo save with the full game?
You’ll be able to use the save from the Nibelheim section of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo with the full version of the game. This portion of the demo starts from the beginning of the game and follows the party as they reach Kalm Inn. There, Cloud tells his version of what happened at Nibelheim five years prior.
As far as we can tell, the demo encompasses the first chapter of the full game unabridged, so feel free to explore to your heart’s content with the knowledge that your progress will carry over. When the full version of FF7 Rebirth launches on 2/29, you’ll be able to pick right back up at the start of Chapter 2.
The Junon section, on the other hand, has been altered according to the listing on the PS Store:
“The Junon area featured in this demo has been altered to make the content more compact, so progress cannot be carried over to the full game.”
According to the leaked trophy list, we estimate that this part of the demo will cover Chapter 3 or 4 of the full game. However, parts will likely be blocked off so as not to spoil too much of the adventure.
The Nibelheim episode of the FF7 Rebirth demo is available now, and the Junon section will be available on 2/21/14—the full version of the game debuts as a PS5 exclusive on 2/29/14.
