GTA Online: How to Switch Seats in Vehicles

There is no built-in mechanic or key binding to switch seats directly while inside a vehicle in GTA Online. Players generally have to exit the vehicle and re-enter from the side to change seats. However, keep in mind that game updates and patches may have been released since then, and it’s possible that Rockstar Games has introduced new features or changes.

How to switch seats in GTA Online

There’s no built-in way to directly switch seats in GTA Online as of January 2024. Rockstar hasn’t implemented a feature for players to seamlessly swap positions within a vehicle.

This can be frustrating, especially if you’re playing with friends or crewmates and want to let someone else take the wheel, or if you simply prefer riding shotgun.

This is the most common and reliable method, though not exactly elegant. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Press the designated button/key to exit the vehicle. This is typically the same button you use to get out of any vehicle in the game.
  2. Move around the vehicle and position yourself next to the door of the seat you want to sit in. You can switch between the driver and passenger sides using this method.
  3. Enter the vehicle.

It’s important to note that the first person attempting to enter a vehicle is always designated as the driver. Even if you approach from the passenger side, you’ll end up in the driver’s seat.

Certain vehicles in GTA Online allow for seat switching, albeit with limitations:

  • APC and Dune FAV: On PC, holding the “H” key allows you to cycle between the passenger and gunner positions. This feature is specific to these combat vehicles and doesn’t apply to regular cars.
  • Tula: Some players report being able to switch seats by repeatedly pressing the “H” key on PC. However, this seems inconsistent and might not work for everyone.
