The Day Before Change Resolution Bug: How to Fix Resolutions For Ultrawide Screen Size

A frustrating The Day Before change resolution bug is causing headaches for players who wish to play the game with different resolutions. Attempting to head to the in-game settings for The Day Before and altering the screen size there can make the game glitch out. The graphics can become erratic and laggy, making the game unplayable. That is, if you can get past the rampant connection issues and actually find a server that isn’t full at the moment. Fortunately, there is actually a fix for this that has been verified by the community. Here is how to fix and change the resolution for custom screen sizes like ultrawide for The Day Before on PC.

How to fix The Day Before change resolution bug

To change the resolution settings for The Day Before without experiencing a bug or graphical glitch, you need to head to the game’s files and change a few variables:

  1. Find the file called GameUserSettings.ini that is usually found by going to the hard drive folder where you downloaded the game. Then go to the folder with your username, then AppData, Local, Survival, Saved, and finally Config.
  2. Open this .ini file in Notepad and then find the entries for the following variables:
    • ResolutionSizeX
    • ResolutionSizeY
    • LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeX
    • LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeY
    • DesiredScreenWidth
    • DesiredScreenHeight
    • LastUserConfirmedDesiredScreenWidth
    • LastUserConfirmedDiesredScreenHeight
  3. Enter the numbers for your preferred resolution for the game after the equal sign fo each variable above.
  4. Save the .ini file and then launch The Day Before.

Going into the settings files this way will change the resolution to your particular monitor without needing to adjust it within the menu settings. There are also some resolutions that the game doesn’t support by default, so using this solution will allow you to match the screen size to your custom preference.

That said, the game is currently unstable and has a lot of graphical bugs, like falling through the floor in the opening room. So if you open the game and find that the resolution is causing issues, you may need to change the variable in the .ini file to a basic screen size like 1920×1080 to fix things.
