Cities Skylines 2 Performance Issues Fix Patch Hotfix

Cities Skylines 2 Performance Issues: How to Fix Low FPS, Lag, and Stuttering

A number of Cities Skylines 2 performance issues have been acknowledged by developer Colossal Order ltd. Issues with low framerate, lag, and stuttering have been noted by various reviewers, and a response on the official Paradox Interactive forums states that the publisher knows about the concerns. This is why they have raised the minimum and recommended specs for the game. Even so, they still plan on releasing Cities Skylines 2 despite the numerous problems with performance. Fortunately, there are a few solutions you can try to make the FPS smoother. Here’s how to fix PC performance issues for Cities Skylines 2.

How to fix Cities Skylines 2 performance issues

Here are some ways to fix various performance issues for Cities Skylines 2:

  • Reduce or turn off settings for Depth of Field, Volumetrics, and Global Illumination – Any graphical effects that impacts fillrate should be turned down if you want a better FPS
  • Set other graphical settings to Medium or lower – If you continue to experience stuttering, we recommend turning down the Animation Quality, Level of Detail, and Texture Quality Settings to Low or Medium. The same goes for Reflections Quality, Shadow Quality, and Terrain Quality.

As noted in an official Reddit AMA with Colossal Order, performance issues are indeed their first priority, along with creating a map editor. They plan on releasing additional patches and hotfixes specifically for performance after launch. In particular, they hope to remove stuttering by optimizing synchronization on different hardware setups that they weren’t able to test thoroughly before launch. They are also focused on reducing the memory footprint on both RAM and VRAM.

The developers also reveals that they don’t intend to target a 60 FPS and instead targets a steady 30 FPS. According to them, these performance issues are “not deep in the game foundation and in the release version.” The game will not launch with DLSS support, but it hopes that it can enabled it later after they figure out how to make this anti-aliasing solution compatible with the game’s objects.
