AC Mirage Chromatic Aberration: How to Turn it Off

The Assassin’s Creed Mirage chromatic aberration setting is going to be rather strong for some. It is a stylistic choice, one that many games give players the ability to turn off. Here’s how to turn of chromatic aberration in AC Mirage.

Can you turn off chromatic aberration in AC Mirage?

There is a bit of a divide in how chromatic aberration is handled in AC Mirage. Those on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S can’t turn it off. There is no option in the video settings that players can toggle to switch it on and off, which is unlike many recent games. It is unclear if this will be patched in in the future.

PC players, however, may be able to address the problem, while not completely turning it off. As found by Reddit user V_Effects, PC players can go to the Assassin’s Creed Mirage ini file by going to Documents, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and then to ACMirage.ini. Open it with Notepad (you may have to change it to “read only”), search for “Bloom,” change that value to zero, and then save the file. This might not turn chromatic aberration off wholesale, but it might help some.

Ubisoft is aware of the problem, too. Its support account on Twitter tweeted that it “submitted a report to [its] dedicated team regarding the issues with the chromatic aberration” before apologizing for the issue. That response indicates that there is likely a fix coming in a future update, but, again, nothing has been confirmed.

Chromatic aberration is when the colors begin to separate just a little in the out of focus areas. It is somewhat like film grain in that it is a stylistic choice meant to emulate film and its imperfections. Some may not notice it, while it can make others feel uneasy. The above slideshow demonstrates how zooming into the top right corner show a little bit of bleeding colors.
