The Baldur’s Gate 3 Threshold of Loss room requires you to solve a puzzle in order to pass through the door. There’s a note about a Patriar’s Loss next to the door and interacting with it reveals a cryptic clue that says that only a Patriar’s Loss will open the way to the Chamber of Loss. There’s also an altar down the staircase with a diamond. Fortunately, there are actually several ways to get through this room. Here’s how to unlock the door in the Threshold of Loss and solve the puzzle.
How to solve the Baldur’s Gate 3 Threshold of Loss puzzle
Here are several ways to open the locked door in the Threshold of Loss:
- Place 1000 gold on the altar – Go into your inventory and take 1,000 coins from the pile of gold you hopefully have. Then place it on the dish in front of the altar to unlock the door.
- Place items worth 1000 gold instead – If you don’t have the coins, you can also place other high-value items on the altar instead. You can use whatever will fit on the dish. This includes the diamond next to the altar, other gemstones, ingots, potions, unneeded weapons, etc.
- Unlock the door using Silver Key – In the same room where you can spare Viconia DeVir, there’s a Silver Key in the corner of the room. You can unlock the Threshold of Loss door using this key.
- Lockpick the door – Any character with a high enough Sleight of Hand skill can instead lockpick the door. Using Asterion or the Gloves of Thievery will help here.
Note that if you place objects on the altar plate, they will disappear as a sacrifice to unlock the door.
There’s also a chance that the altar plate gets buggy, so you may need to toss the objects onto the plate a few times for it to trigger.
