In Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll encounter the Riddle of the Night in the Gauntlet of Shar library. It poses the question, “What can silence the Nightsong?” The key to solving this puzzle is not to overthink it. It might seem like this is supposed to give you a real mental workout, but it’s obnoxiously simple.
What’s the solution to the Riddle of the Night in the Gauntlet of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Once you clear the enemies from the library in the Gauntlet of Shar in BG3, you can open a gate leading to the rear of the room. Here, there’s a pedestal with the Riddle of the Night inscribed on it, and upon it is a slot to place an item. It poses the question, “What can silence the Nightsong?”
Luckily, the solution to this puzzle is nearby. In the main library, you’ll find a book that gives you the clue you need to solve the riddle: Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger.
Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger reads:
“What can silence the Nightsong? Only the Nightsinger herself – Shar. Mistress of the Night. Lady of Loss. Her names are many, but her purpose is simplicity itself: light was a mistake, and life is an illusion – a discordant song composed of lies, breaking the peace of oblivion. Put your faith in Shar as your champion; allow her to silence the false song in your heart and return you to her embrace. Nothingness is all you need. The eternal womb, where you are safe in the darkness, with Mother Shar.”
This clue made me think the riddle had a more complex answer at first. Shar is the only thing that can silence the Nightsong, so I thought I’d have to find some special item to place on the pedestal. That’s not the case, though. You just have to put Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger there, and a door will open in the back of the room.
You can get the Spear of Night inside the newly opened room, which you’ll want to hang onto.
