Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Sell Gems or Keep them

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: Should I Keep Gems or Sell Them?

Gems are worth a lot of money in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but you might be unsure if you should sell them. If you’re anything like me, you’ll hoard every item for a hundred hours just in case you need it. However, there are arguments to be made about keeping gems and for selling them. We’ll take a look at the merits of both sides below.

Should I sell or keep my gems in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

If you sell your gems in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you can net a lot of money. For example, the rarest gem, diamonds, can earn 1,000 rupees a pop. So, why would you want to hang onto them?

Well, you do need gems for gear upgrades. Four Great Fairies are around the map that will increase the defense stats on a piece of armor in exchange for a fee and some items. The better the armor, the rarer (and more expensive) the items the fairy will want.

I advise selling your gems early on in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. You’ll amass a lot of lower-level gems quickly, and I found it helpful to have a decent savings. In particular, you can make a few outfit purchases early on that make the first two dungeons much less stressful, and you’ll need a hunk of cash to grab them. Fortunately, mineral deposits in Tears of the Kingdom regenerate, so you can farm for gems if needed.
