Zelda Tears of the Kingdom How to Beat Walking Trees

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: How to Beat Walking Trees

You’ll run into walking trees in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that might seem impossible to beat. These tricky monsters, called Evermeans, are indistinguishable from regular trees until they uproot themselves and begin chasing you. Fortunately, they’re not too tricky to beat once you know which weapons are effective against them.

How to kill the Evermean walking trees in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The walking trees in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are a species called Evermeans. You can beat them just like you would a regular tree: by chopping them down. These monsters are only affected by chopping-type weapons like swords and axes. Stabbing and club-type weapons just bounce off of them.

The best strategy to use against the walking trees is to bait them to do their slam attack by getting close to them. This attack is slow to wind up, so you can easily see it coming and run back or to the side to avoid it. They’re also slow to recover from the attack, and you can quickly run behind them and chop away.

The Hyrule Compendium describes the Evermean like this:

“A monster that mimics a tree, found throughout the forests of Hyrule. These imposters are hard to differentiate from the genuine article, making it easy for them to team up and pounce on unsuspecting passersby. Because the species shares characteristics with trees, it can be chopped down in much the same way.”

Beating an Evermean will net you one or more of these items:

  • Acorn
  • Bladed Rhino Beetle
  • Chickaloo Tree Nut
  • Energetic Rhino Beetle
  • Golden Apple
  • Hightail Lizard
  • Korok Frond
  • Monster Extract
  • Rugged Rhino Beetle
  • Sturdy Thick Stick

In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, these walking trees are found predominately in the Great Hyrule Forest and Hyrule Field. However, they pop up elsewhere from time to time, so always be on the lookout.
