Linkle first appeared in Hyrule Warriors Legends for 3DS, a spin-off of Hyrule Warriors. Despite her name and character design, she is not related to Link in any way; although an early iteration made her Link’s sister, this was later scrapped. While she hasn’t appeared in any games since, in an interview with Eiji Aonuma, he stated he would like to include her in a future Zelda game (via IGN). This is partly what led to speculation about her appearance in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, although this has been shown to be false.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has many opportunities for experimentation, leading many to ask if there will be multiple save slots.
