Is Zelda a playable character in Tears of the Kingdom?

You don’t play as Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom. Link is still the main character, and the princess is the central supporting character. You’ll play as Link throughout the game, and you’ll be trying to find and rescue Zelda as usual. However, this time around, Zelda is reprising a role we haven’t seen since Ocarina of Time.

More Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Guides

In Tears of the Kingdom, Zelda is the Sage of Time and a major figure in the Imprisoning War. After she and Link witness the waking of the Demon King, she’s transported into the past, where she works to support Link in the future. It’s because of her that Link finds many resources waiting for him during his adventure, without which he would have no chance of taking on the Demon King.

So, even though Zelda isn’t the playable character in Tears of the Kingdom, she’s still very important. Without her, Link would be in a far sorrier state and likely could never hope to defeat the forces of evil invading Hyrule.

Now, learn how to use the Wing Device.
