Is Reddit Banning NSFW or Sexual Content in 2023?

Reddit will not ban NSFW content on its official website and app in 2023. However, upcoming changes have users wondering what the future access restrictions will be for NSFW content. In addition, Imgur, a website with close ties to Reddit, has banned NSFW content, further confounding the situation.

Is Reddit banning sexual content?

Reddit isn’t banning NSFW content on the main site or on the official app. However, it does plan to start charging third parties for the use of the Reddit API. When this change occurs, there will likely be some loss in functionality as well.

Reddit may be banning access to sexual content on third-party apps. The creator of the most popular iOS client, Apollo, spoke with the site about how it would affect him. Non-sexual NSFW content will still be available through the API. However, it wasn’t confirmed whether the plethora of porn available on the site will be exclusive to the official app or not.

Site management is supposed to clarify whether NSFW content will still be available on third-party apps soon. However, it might not really matter. Imgur hosts a large portion of the sexual content shared on Reddit and when its ban is enacted, there won’t be much left to view.
