If you’ve enjoyed the Shadow and Bone Netflix series, then the first book you will want to pick up is its 2012 namesake. This books lays the foundations for the Grishaverse, introducing the main characters that you will recognize from the show, and ends in the same place as the series’ first season. The second, Siege and Storm, however, goes in a different direction to what you will watch in the fantasy epic’s on screen offering.

The third and final book, Ruin and Rising, includes the ultimate standoff between lead character Alina and the Darkling, with Ravka’s fate at the center. Those seeking answers for where the Netflix show may eventually conclude may find them here, although writers on the series might decide to go down a different path entirely.

Bardugo has also written a spin-off series of books, the Six of Crows duology, and the King of Scars duology, as well as a trio of companion books. The duology books take place two years after the events of the original trilogy. Here is how to read those additions to the Grishaverse in the right order:

  • Six of Crows (2015)
  • Crooked Kingdom (2016)
  • King of Scars (2019)
  • Rule of Wolves (2021)
  • The Language of Thorns (2017)
  • The Lives of Saints (2020)
  • Demon in the Wood (2022)
