Succession is undoubtedly one of the most popular TV shows of the modern age, and many are wondering if the HBO series will continues with a Season 5. Starring the likes of Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Alan Ruck, the show follows the journey of the Roy family, who are known for controlling the biggest media and entertainment company worldwide. This is everything we know currently about the odds of a Succession Season 5.
Will there be a Succession Season 5?
There are currently no plans for Season 5 of Succession. Creator Jesse Armstrong confirmed that Season 4 of the HBO drama would be the last, in an interview with The New Yorker. “It’s pretty definitively the end,” Armstrong said. “The show is against bullshit, and I wouldn’t like to be bullshitting anyone when I was talking about it.”
Despite this news, the Succession universe could remain open at HBO. Armstrong hinted that the franchise may have a future, as he has a “feeling that there could be something else in an allied world, or allied characters, or some of the same characters” to still tell a story with.
Of course, the final decision there will lie with the network, and HBO content CEO Casey Bloys seemed to recently pour water on the idea of the Succession universe opening further. Chatting to Variety about any potential Succession spinoffs, Bloys did say to “never say never,” but added that “it doesn’t seem to me that there’s something in Succession where you would go, ‘Let’s follow just this kid’ or whatever.” Fortunately for Armstrong, Bloys did add that they would “follow Jesse’s lead” as to the franchise’s future.
“Maybe there’s another part of this world we could come back to,” Armstrong concluded. “Maybe there’s something else that could be done, that harnessed what’s been good about the way we’ve worked on this. So that is another true feeling.”
Succession Season 4 debuts on HBO on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
