The Last of Us HBO Episode 6: Was Paolina van Kleef’s Staring Girl Dina From Part 2?

The Last of Us may have introduced a character from the second Naughty Dog game in the series, in Episode 6 of the HBO show. It was a moment that will undoubtedly set fans of the critically-acclaimed games into a frenzy on social media.

When Ellie and Joel made their way to the Jackson community, finding Joel’s brother Tommy and his partner Maria in the process, they were given as much food and drink as they could stomach. While eating, Ellie spotted a girl staring at her from a short distance, and quickly shouted at her. Was this Dina from The Last of Us Part 2, or somebody else?

It is very likely that the credited ‘staring girl’ in The Last of Us HBO Episode 6 was Dina. She was wearing similar clothes to the ones that Dina sports in The Last of Us Part 2, along with a matching hairstyle to the character. The actor playing her in this episode was Paolina van Kleef.

While Dina didn’t say anything, and quickly scurried off when Ellie called her out for looking, she is somebody who will play a huge role in the series’ future. Dina serves as the deuteragonist of Ellie’s story in the second game, as the two are romantically involved. They go out together on a mission for answers, in the hopes of finding someone who has wronged them.

If, as suspected, Season 1 of The Last of Us on HBO covers the entirety of the first game, we can expect Dina to be properly introduced in Season 2. Though we shouldn’t expect to see her until that second game’s time jump takes place on the small screen, she will be a vital part of the future narrative.
