Gundam: Witch from Mercury: Do I Need to Watch the Other Series First?

Before starting Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, you don’t have to watch any of the other series. The latest series in the four-decade old mecha franchise takes place in a brand-new timeline. So, you don’t have to wade your way through over 50 anime series, OVAs, and movies to understand what’s happening. However, there is at least one thing you need to watch before viewing episode one.

What do I need to watch before Gundam: The Witch From Mercury?

Before you start Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, episode one, make sure to watch the prologue. It’s free to view on YouTube, and sets the stage for the series. It’s so essential to the story that we’re surprised it was released separately. Other than that, the only connection it has to the other series is that it features giant bipedal robots with a hard sci-fi setting.

However, if you find that you’re a fan of this series, the rest of the Gundam franchise is worth checking out. There’s a lot of content there, but most of it is available to stream now, and our watch order will help you navigate your way through it. We’re huge fans of the main Universal Century narrative, but New Mobile Report Gundam Wing might be a better place to start if you’re not looking to make such a huge commitment.
