Tommy doesn’t die in The Last of Us 2, but he comes close. He is seemingly killed by multiple people, but manages to survive until the end of the game. However, he does end up severely injured to the point he can no longer effectively fight the way he once could.

Tommy was the first to set out after Joel’s killers. He tracked Abby and her friends to Seattle, and quickly begins his pursuit despite receiving minor injuries at the lodge.

Tommy manages to eventually track down one of Abby’s friends, Manny, and Abby herself. However, before he can take her out he’s stabbed and pushed into the ocean. Surprisingly, he’s no worse for the wear and meets up with Jesse and they head to meet up with Ellie.

When Tommy arrives at the Theater that Ellie and Dina are using as a base, Abby and Lev arrive and Tommy ends up getting shot in the leg, then the head. While it appears for a moment that he’s dead, he manages to survive and he returns with Ellie to Jackson.

Unfortunately, the shot to the head causes Tommy to lose an eye and the one to the leg causes permanent mobility issues. As such, he is unable to join Ellie and hunt Abby in Santa Barbara.

At of the end of The Last of Us 2, Tommy is alive and living in Jackson, Wyoming.
