Splatoon 3 DLC: Will There be an Expansion Pass?

Splatoon 3 will be getting plenty of post-launch updates and DLC according to today’s Splatoon 3 Nintendo Direct, but what exactly does that entail? Will the content be free or will it be premium content? If it’s premium content, will there be an Expansion Pass? We’re here to answer all of those questions for you.

What post-launch DLC is coming to Splatoon 3?

Splatoon 3 DLC

Players will get more customization options for their characters and lockers as new catalogs will be released every three months for a period of two years after the game launches on September 9. Catalogs include seasonal items of clothing and emotes as well as splashtag customization options like banners, badges, and titles. Points can be earned in battle to purchase items from catalogs.

At the same time, new weapons will also be added, which will be purchasable with Sheldon licenses earned by leveling up your character or by leveling up your weapon. Each license can be exchanged for a single weapon that corresponds to your player level, although spending three licenses in one purchase will get better weapons sooner than expected.

Two new modes will also be added in post-launch updates. X Battle will be available for all players with an “extremely high” rank in Anarchy Battle mode, while League Battle is where all players can compete in teams every two hours based on their current Anarchy Battle results. Finally, large-scale paid DLC will be released and will be sold separately, although Nintendo wouldn’t reveal any further details at this time. Whether this “large-scale” DLC will be included in an Expansion Pass is yet to be revealed.
