Fans are wondering if there’s Xenoblade Chronicles 3 multiplayer, co-op, or otherwise. The series has flirted with the concept before, so it wouldn’t be unprecedented to play with your friends. We’ll take a look at whether that’s a possibility and the series’ history with multiplayer below.
Is there co-op multiplayer in Xenoblade Chronicles 3?
Unfortunately, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a single-player-only title. There’s no form of multiplayer available and no way to play co-op. It’s an entirely solo experience, and Nintendo hasn’t announced any plans to add multiplayer to the game in the future.
The only Xenoblade game that includes multiplayer functionality is Xenoblade Chronicles X. In that title, you can loan out your primary avatar to other players and form Squads with them. Squads can include up to 32 players and allow the participants to share reports and participate in battles in other players’ words. Squads can also take part in Tasks which are time-limited random missions where players collect resources from Mira’s locales. There are also Global Nemesis missions that pit multiple players against a very powerful monster.
Even though its multiplayer system is relatively complete, Xenoblade Chronicles X handles it all asynchronously. So, there’s no way to directly connect to another player and explore the world alongside them. This game also takes place in a separate continuity from the other Xenoblade games and can be seen as more of a side story.
Unfortunately, Xenoblade Chronicles X is stuck on the Wii U, and it doesn’t seem as though there are any plans to bring it to the Switch. For me, it’s worth the price of a Wii U because it dives deeper into gameplay and exploration than the numbered entries of Xenoblade Chronicles do.
So, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 doesn’t have multiplayer and almost certainly won’t be getting it. The best chance to get that is if Monolith Soft makes a follow-up to X.
