The Quordle 172 answer is now solved for July 15, 2022. Apparently, today’s puzzle has forgotten all about yesterday’s easy-breezy solution and has ramped up the difficulty by a notch. It took us all nine rows to get every word this time around. A part of the challenge comes from the lack of synergy between the four words, meaning that very few letters are repeated throughout the puzzle. Solving one word won’t give you much information on the others. On the flip side, there’s only one occurrence of a double letter.
It’s hard to choose which word is the hardest to solve, but the one in the lower-right corner does have two uncommon consonants. To provide a hint, it’s usually used as a verb when asking a person to move his or her position a little. If you’re looking for the full solution, you can check it after the break.

“BUDGE” has the uncommon “B” and “G” consonants, and can lead to the “?UDGE” construction which has several solutions: “B,” “F,” “J,” “M,” “N,” and “P.” Because of this, we decided to input the word “BLIMP” to reduce the number of possibilities, and luckily got the “B” out of it in the first position, in addition to eliminating the “B,” “M,” and “P” from the board. The other difficult word would be “NYLON” mainly due to the “N” being repeated and being placed both at the front and the back.
“SHELF” and “VIRAL” aren’t pushovers either. The “H,” “F,” and “V” consonants can be hard to decipher if you don’t have many guesses left. That’s what happened to us with our extra “BLIMP” try, as none of the consonants in that word helped us with these two.
