Netflix’s Resident Evil takes us to New Raccoon City and follows Jade and Billie Wesker, the daughters of Albert Wesker. In the video games, Wesker was one of the first test subjects of Project W, and he appeared in multiple video games as the villain. The TV show will follow two timelines. One will see the Wesker daughters leading an everyday life after moving to the new Raccoon City in 2022. The second timeline, however, will take place in 2036, where Jade Wesker fights the global zombie apocalypse. So, Wesker’s presence in the show makes it directly interlinked to the video games.

Showrunner Andrew Dabb stated that the games serve as a backstory to the show. For instance, the show will feature the New Raccoon City, which was supposedly built on the one that was destroyed in the video game timeline in 1998. Furthermore, the show’s creator added that the show acknowledges everything that happened in the games, including the events of Resident Evil: Village.

Of course, several names in the show may sound familiar to Resident Evil fans, but keep in mind that the show will give us a story that wasn’t told in any of the video games. We shouldn’t expect to see too many crossovers with the games, and despite what the showrunner says, it’s highly doubtful that Capcom will ever reference this series in the canon. The Japanese studio has been reluctant to acknowledge the show in any capacity, so it’s unlikely it will affect the franchise.
